Aspen Gillespie
Located in Aspen's historic West End, a Victorian-era home holds its ground. The exterior keeps its gabled roofline, its welcoming front porch, and its century of weathering intact, preserving the character and familiar presence it has established within the neighborhood over generations. Rather than restoring the home to a single moment in time, the design embraces its history while allowing it to continue evolving. Every intervention was approached with the intent to respect the existing architecture, ensuring that the home's original identity remains at the forefront.
Inside, a series of modern insertions—including a new fireplace, a warm wooden stair, and a reimagined kitchen—are carefully set within the historic shell rather than replacing it. Contemporary elements are thoughtfully integrated into the existing fabric, establishing a clear relationship between old and new while allowing each to retain its own identity. The house still remembers what it was while embracing what it has become, demonstrating that thoughtful preservation allows historic architecture to evolve without losing the character that defines it.
